Design and development of low cost solar electric tricycle for handicapped people
Abstract
As everyone is aware, the cost of fuel is progressively growing every day. Again, vehicle-related pollution in major cities and urban regions is constantly rising so we have to find an alternative source which is renewable, eco – friendly, affordable and available. It is very difficult for handicapped people to drive a tricycle by hand. In India, tricycles are a common mode of transportation, and people who are physically disabled are more likely to utilize them. By implementing IoT technology it can be used to monitor and control various aspects of the tricycle, such as battery life, battery, motor temperature providing a more efficient and reliable mode of transportation. By studying various research papers we have found different designs have been used by different authors. Different technologies have been used in order to make tricycles by different authors. In the current scenario electric tricycles are not found to be efficient in terms of range, speed and charging time. The main components of our project are gear motor, batteries, Solar panels etc.
Therefore, the goal of this project is to create an electric tricycle that can be powered by solar energy or a battery charger. So we try to enhance the range of the tricycle and reduce charging time of the battery. This paper describes the design and development of a solar-powered tricycle for the handicapped people. We cover various electrical tricycle components, which includes solar panels, rechargeable batteries, motors, and controllers. It also has an alternate facility to run with a manual handle incase if the battery is not charged. Additionally include the results from experiments which have been obtained through the testing of an electric tricycle. The paper wraps up with suggestions for further research and development in the field of solar electric tricycles in order to further improve their efficacy, usability, and accessibility.
The results of our experiments show that the solar-powered electric try-cycle is a feasible choice for allowing disabled individuals access to an economical, environmentally friendly, and efficient method of transportation. The tricycle has a maximum speed of 25 km/hr and can travel up to 30 km on a single charge. Both solar energy and an ordinary power source can be utilized for charging the battery.
